Sealing Bricks Without Affecting The Appearance

A brick wall on a domestic or industrial property can often let damp seep through, especially in older properties where there is no damp proof course. It is not automatically necessary to apply render or even to paint it - no need to affect the appearance. In old properties it is essential that the appearance of the brickwork is not affected; ACM provided ACM Silicone Waterproofer Wx-4 to a castle in Ireland for such a project. Three hundred year old bricks cannot be painted for aesthetic or legal reasons (listed buildings).

ACM Silicone Waterproofer Wx-4 is a clear solvent based coating containing emulsified silicone. Once applied the solvent evaporates leaving silicone, a water repellent, in the pores of the bricks. The transformation is remarkable, whereas prior to coating rain would soak in, after application water simply beads and runs down the wall to ground level.
