How To Choose The Right Floor Paint
Floor paint is such a basic term and can mean anything from an emulsion paint to a 0.5mm thick high build epoxy coating. One of the most important phrases in the world sums up the difference between floor paints; "You get what you pay for". Here is a guide to the different types of floor paint for factory floors.
Emulsion Paint - although the cheapest they can last as little as a month on a factory floor under forklift trucks and water resistance is low.
Solvent based coatings - Last longer than water based paints but the solvent makes it difficult to use for the applicator and usually means customers have to completely shut down processes to prevent contamination or to prevent workers being affected.
Spirit based coatings - single pack products which can last 12-18 months in a factory.
Water based epoxy paints - these are two part products and usually are free from solvent. They can withstand mild chemicals and good quality products can provide two to three years lifespan under forklifts. Be wary of cheap products which may be very low solids ie full of water.
Solvent free epoxy or polyurethane coatings - these tend to be high viscosity and have ultra chemical resistance. Two coats of high build epoxy can give up to five years wear resistance with a 0.5mm thick coat.
