Factory Floors
Choosing the right kind of system for a factory floor depends on balancing three aspects; budget, performance and anticipated use of the floor. All three actually depend on each other.
The first step should be to decide what is actually needed. A bare powerfloated concrete floor in a warehouse environment does not need painting if the concrete/installation is of good quality. Where a paint would be required is area designation, walkways and forklift lanes, or to simply give a good impression on visiting customers. It is important to remember that many manufacturers are regularly visited by clients to inspect their premises as part of a supply chain agreement. Alternatively a worn concrete floor with damaged areas is not suitable to be painted, screeding must be undertaken.
Once the requirements have been set, the next step is to decide what performance criteria is needed. There is no point deciding to coat the floor and then choosing a single pack paint which will probably only last six months. There are industrial coatings that provide 3-5 years lifespan and even 3mm thick coatings that can provide 10 to 15 years lifespan.
The final step is to allocate a budget. A concrete floor which is too rough to paint with a budget of £5/sq.m is just not feasible. ACM approved contractors often quote for multiple systems outlining benefits vs cost so the customer can decide. A 1000sq.m floor can cost between £6-7/sq.m for inustrial coatings, £10-20/sq.m for pumpable floor screeds and £20-25 per sq.m for 3mm Epoxy SL. Many enquiries simply do not proceed to installation because budgets are small but expectations high.
